KIRKSVILLE R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT

POSITION TITLE:    ELL Translator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:  Appropriate licensure, certification, experience or education.

REPORTS TO:  ELL Teacher and Building Administrator

HOURS IN DUTY DAYS EXCLUDING LUNCH:  7

(Note:  Actual workdays may vary in accordance with District needs and administrative assignments and may include occasional weekend work.)

 

CONTRACT DAYS WORKED:  9 months

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

*  Interpret and translate teacher’s instructions and explanations as needed for ELL

    student learning, working with teacher to modify instruction as needed.

*  Help facilitate learning groups, under the direction of the teacher, to encourage

    integration, as well as positive interactions, for ELL students.

*  Help administer formal and informal assessments to ensure content assessment vs. language

    acquisition assessment.

*  Assist ELL teacher with clerical and planning duties as needed.

*   Provide interpretation/translation between families and school staff, for the purpose of

    facilitating communication between families and schools.

*  Ensure all translations adhere to district policies and procedures.

*  Flexibility in working with students and staff in all settings.

*  Demonstrate specific knowledge  based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the

    functions of the job.

*  Demonstrate a knowledge of the instructional needs of ELL students.

*  Demonstrate a knowledge of classroom norms and expectations.

*  Help students build background knowledge for new concepts.

*  Provide feedback in a constructive way.

*  Promote value of cultural differences.

*  Promote student independence.

 

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Other duties as assigned.  This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental

   duties.  The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such

   duties. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

* Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas

   and other assigned areas.

* Physical demands can include but are not limited to:  Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally,

   and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects

   including equipment such as audio-visual.

* Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling,

   reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.

* Mental demands can include but are not limited to:  Comparing, copying, computing,

   compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.

* Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
