*Please Note:  This is part time,  days and times TBD, approximately 40-50 hours per month

 

 

KIRKSVILLE R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

POSITION TITLE:  Reading Interventionist

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Must meet current DESE certification requirements

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

Training in SOR (i.e. LETRS)

 

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator and Title I Director

 

CONTRACT DAYS WORKED:  School Year

 

JOB GOAL: 

To help students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their academic growth.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and develops successful reading instruction for students.
  • Responsible for group and individual instruction of reading for qualifying students.
  • Maintains a collaborative, cooperative relationship with staff, students, and the community.
  • Implements a variety of assessment instruments to determine eligibility, and instructional needs and interventions for students in reading.
  • Provide pre and post assessment data to monitor student growth.
  • Work together with the regular classroom teachers to determine instructional alternatives for individual students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
  • Create and implement a positive classroom environment.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s reading and progress monitoring data.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides reading data as required for team planning.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Participates as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance team as requested.
  • Participates in, plans and creates opportunities for parental involvement.
  • Manages students reading success plans; setting goals, collecting data and communicating with parents.
  • Implements building initiatives with fidelity.
  • Stays current with research emergent literacy instruction.

Evaluation:  Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the

   provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

 

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading or unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess or other activities.

* Other duties as assigned.  This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

* An individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. 

* Must be able to move around the classroom and read handwritten or printed materials.

* The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.

* Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.

* Physical demands can include but are not limited to:  Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.

* Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.

* Mental demands can include but are not limited to:  Comparing, copying, computing,

   compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
