JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Agriculture Education Instructor


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor degree in Agriculture Education with an Agriculture Education Teaching Certification.
ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION:

An individual with a bachelor’s degree in a content area (such as mathematics or English) takes self-directed courses – a minimum of 24 college credits (varies for different areas) to meet specified competencies, teaches for two years, is mentored by the school district and passes at least two exit examinations. The individual works under a one-year, renewable certificate that requires nine semester hours of college credit each year in order to be renewed. When requirements are completed, the individual receives an initial certificate.


REPORTS TO: Director of Kirksville Area Technical Center
DURATION: 11-month contract, FFA stipend based on experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs
a. Make regularly planned instructional supervisory visits throughout the year.
b. Make special visitations during critical periods.
c. Check students’ record books for accuracy which include entries every month.
d. Evaluate the Supervised Agricultural Experience programs of students.
e. Conduct tour(s) of agricultural experience programs.
f. Attend and help with local and area fairs.
g. Organize and supervise pre-vocational agricultural experience programs of prospective students.
h. Follow-up former students.
i. Assist students in securing placement in related jobs.
j. Take pictures of SAE programs.
k. Monitor due dates for fair entries and assist students at fairs.
l. Every student should have a SAE.
m. Assist students in exhibiting livestock, crops, and agriculture mechanic projects at fairs and shows.


2. Conduct and/or follow-up on out-of-school educational activities.
a. Hold regular summer meetings.
b. Make supervisory visits to all current and prospective students.
c. Conduct tours and/or excursions.
d. Plan and conduct recreational activities.
e. Attend neighboring department, district, or state meetings of out-of-school groups.


3. Planning the program for next year
a. Hold 2 advisory committee meetings per year.
b. Update Kirksville FFA Constitution and Bylaws.
c. Develop a community program for agriculture education.
d. Develop or revise the local program plan.
e. Prepare teaching plans for lessons to be taught in: Classroom, Supervised Agricultural Experience, FFA and Out-of-school groups
f. Plan field trips and laboratory activities for the school year.


4. FFA
a. Hold chapter meetings every month with fun activities during summer.
b. Compete in area and state trapshooting contest.
c. Prepare and train FFA and Agriculture contest teams.
d. Assist students in preparing applications for awards, proficiency awards, state and American Degree.
e. Assist and train students to become area and state officers.
f. Hold a local banquet to showcase accomplishments throughout the year.
g. Participate in area, district, state and national FFA activities.
    a. Washington Leadership Conference
    b. FFA Camp Rising Sun
    c. State Convention
    d. National Convention
    e. District meetings
    f. Area meeting, conferences, and banquets.
h. Prepare for and/or participate in:
    a. Junior fairs and local fairs
    b. State fair as exhibitor or superintendent.
    c. Organized recreational activities
    d. Hold summer tour or camp out to develop tentative program of work for next year
i. Order needed paraphernalia, supplies, or equipment.
j. Attend district or state advisory meetings.
k. Use social media and newspaper to publish article on FFA chapter.


5. Classroom
a. PBL (Project Based Learning) and hands on activity in every class
b. Conduct field trips, both in and out of district
c. Secure materials for resale to students (metal, wood, etc.)
d. Prepare and evaluate teaching schedule, curriculum, and teaching calendars
e. Prepare teaching plans, demonstrations plans, and teaching material for all classes.


6. Professional Development Activities
a. Participate in Area Planning Meeting for upcoming year
b. Attend MoACTE/MVATA Summer Conference
c. Participate in Summer Technical Institutes
d. Enroll in Summer School Courses at Universities
e. Participate in local school district in-service training meetings


7. Other
a. Turn in summer calendar to KATC director.
b. Attend State Wide In-Services, MVATA teacher meetings, Area Workshops
c. Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture resale accounts for classroom and shop supplies.
d. Create PO (Purchase Order) for supplies and equipment for the classroom and shop facilities.
e. Inventory the supplies and equipment of the agriculture program.
f. Cooperate in maintaining, planning, and improving the physical facilities
g. Complete and file the required reports with DESE.
h. Serve as advisor for Kirksville FFA Chapter.


Summer Scheduling
• 50% of time should be spent on SAEP visits. 120 visits are the normal goal per instructor. These visits will be logged into a Google drive.
• Summer schedule should be planned in advanced. The plan including schedule should be given to director. With half the time during the summer being spend away from the school, the whereabouts of the instructor should be known. Summary of summer months should be completed on VA-5.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.


EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
• Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.
• Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
• Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
• Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
