POSITION TITLE:
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Valid Missouri teacher certificate for appropriate level (Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Birth - Grade 3)
The Kirksville R-III School District is seeking highly-qualified applicants for an ECSE Teacher working with special needs students ages 3 - 5 (preschool age). Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning.
REPORTS TO: Director of ECLC
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other Duties may be assigned
- Supervise students and manage behavior to provide a safe learning environment
- Develop lesson plans and differentiate group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines to meet the individual needs of assigned students
- Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in communication, social interaction, independent functioning, and academic achievement through a designed course of study
- Collaborate with related service providers regarding student progress and to ensure that services are provided in accordance with IEPs
- Schedule and facilitate Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, Review of Existing Data meetings, and Eligibility Determination meetings, as assigned, in accordance with district procedures
- Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives and directions
- Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placement of referrals in the Special Education Program
- Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding instructional programs and student progress
- Collect, maintain, and interpret student progress data to make program-planning recommendations leading to attainment of goals and improved student achievement
- Maintain appropriate special education documentation for the purpose of providing up to date information and records in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirement
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), as needed
- Administer developmental screenings/testing or district assessments to assess student competency levels and identify learning objectives
- Attend and participate in special education team meetings
- Follows Licensing, Missouri Accreditation and IDEA Special Education guidelines
- Develop students portfolios
- Keep anecdotal notes on students
- Maintain accurate student records including attendance, progress and discipline
- Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy
- Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees if required
- Evaluates and orders materials necessary for instruction, and trains assistants and aides in their use
- Evaluates the progress of each child enrolled in special and/or general ed by conducting observations, data analysis and/or review written reports from the educational team
- May assist assigned students in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, etc.
- Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, clean up, wash up, and toilet routines.
- Implements all curriculum, PBIS and Capturing Kids Hearts
- Be familiar with early childhood development areas

- Use effective communication and conflict resolution to resolve difference and to problem solve
- Withstand pressure and remain calm in crisis or conflict situations, changing conditions within the job and schedule changes
- Participation in professional growth and professional development
- Assume professional responsibilities outside of school setting such as committees, in-services and conferences,
- Assume non academic responsibilities outside of the classroom as assigned by the building principal such as lunch/breakfast duty, or bus duty etc.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring a student up to 50 lbs
- Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties
ATTENDANCE: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises classroom, students, aides, volunteers, and areas as assigned.
EVALUATION: This position is evaluated in accordance with district policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month employee. Salary is to be established by the Board of Education.
